Trout and Grayling Lures
Trout are one of the most popular recreational game fish in the world. With too many species of trout to name them all, examples such as rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, brook trout, dolly varden, and arctic char, are just a few of the many species of trout that are located in North America. Likewise Arctic Graying are a very popular species enjoyed by many fishermen and can be found in great numbers in northern region streams.
Our Line of Trout and Grayling Lures
Trout are predatory feeders with a diet of just about any living creature or protein they can swallow. As a result, trout are generally not a very difficult fish to catch. Small fishing lures such as spinners, spoons, jigs, soft plastics, and flies, that replicate a trout’s food source will usually do the trick for catching them. Arctic grayling share many of the same feeding traits and habitat as trout, and grayling are attracted to similar types of fishing lures and baits.
Fish Fry Jigging Spoons
Kodiak Custom Fish Fry Jigging Spoons are a cross between a micro jig and mini spoon. This winning combination is among the best of the best for trout and grayling fishing lures. They are about the length of a dime and mimic hatchlings or alevin (newly hatched fish still attached to their yolk sac) and fry (tiny young fish that have absorbed their yolk sac and are capable of feeding on their own).
While our fish fry jigging spoons specialize in catching trout and grayling, they are also great lures for catching kokanee, whitefish, crappie, bluegill, perch and many other species of small game fish.
Trout and Grayling Fishing Lure Colors
Kodiak Custom fish fry or micro jigging spoons are available in several of the best color options for catching trout, grayling, and small pan fish. Orange, chartreuse, pink, black, silver, and gold are great color choices to start with for trout fishing lures. Natural tones such as black, white, blue, silver, and gold are among the best colors to choose for grayling fishing lures.
Most of our micro jigs are armed with a realistic holographic scale pattern that resembles fish fry in their early stages of life on one side of the spoon, and a colorful glow finish on the other side for added attraction which makes these lures great for ice fishing as well as open water angling. A small nickel blade is attached near the hook that emulates the fluttering tail of a tiny fish that is sick, panicked, and swimming sporadically.
Soft Plastic Tubes and Baits
Just about any creature that comes to mind can be molded into a soft plastic tube or bait. Kodiak Custom Fishing Tackle designs models that are geared toward better options for catching trout and grayling, but they work so well that just about every other fish on the planet will crush them too! Kodiak Custom mini tube jigs and tube baits are an offshoot of our fish fry jigging spoons and are usually rigged on tiny jig heads that weigh between 1/32 oz. – 1/8 oz. Our mini tube baits imitate fish fry and fingerlings but offer a realistic profile and action that differs from our fish fry jigging spoons. Keep an eye out for our mini soft plastic baits as we develop several different models that are geared for catching trout and grayling.
LED Flashing Lights
Flashing LED lights are proven to be effective tools for attracting many different species of game fish to a lure or bait, especially when ice fishing! It’s rare to see an Alaskan’s ice fishing trout lure box without Kodiak Custom LED flashing lights in them and there’s a reason. Everyone knows our LED lights help catch more fish! Our plain or 2-Eye model tied to the main line with approx. 12 – 20 inches of leader to the lure or bait has replaced traditional oversized flashers in many trout and grayling anglers winter arsenal. Bulky flat surfaced flashers create extra drag, and are prone to throwing slack in the leader when fighting fish, which often results in losing them. Kodiak Custom mini-LED’s cause virtually no slack in the leader while fighting fish, which in turn helps land more fish!
Our compact underwater LED flashing models can be rigged for numerous fish attracting applications. Each light offers approx. 250-300 hours of flashing life when submerged in water. Clean and store LED flashing lights in a dry place when not in use to maximize their battery life.
A body of water that trout reside in is usually within reach of most humans regardless of what part of the globe we are inhabiting. This makes trout fishing a valuable resource for parents to utilize for teaching kids how to fish! Many of the best multi-species anglers around the world began honing their fishing skills as children, using small lures to catch trout.
Try Kodiak Custom Fish Fry Jigging Spoons and mini tube baits next time you go fishing for trout, grayling, pan fish, and any small game fish!
